Describe intended use, construction, ratings and product classification before deciding the route. More than one technical regulation can apply to the same item. Prepare a matrix showing the relevant requirements and whether each calls for certification, declaration or another assessment form.

• Do not choose a declaration merely because it appears simpler.

The applicant must meet the eligibility provisions of the relevant regulation and scheme, including the required establishment within a Member State. Distinguish serial production from a defined batch or individual item. Agree the responsibilities of the foreign manufacturer and local applicant before documentation is prepared.

• Record the legal names, addresses and basis of authorisation.

Confirm that the certification body and any required testing laboratory have the relevant scope and status in the applicable registers. Agree who selects samples and how their origin will be documented. A logo or copied certificate is insufficient to establish that a provider can assess the proposed product.

• Preserve sample identification and the connection to production records.

Prepare the product description, drawings, specifications, safety information and reports required by the selected route. Include model differences and translated information where needed. Make it easy for the reviewer to connect each safety claim with the correct document rather than presenting an unstructured folder of unrelated approvals.

• Check consistency between manufacturer details, labels and application forms.

The scheme determines the required product tests, production assessment and any continuing oversight. Resolve findings through controlled changes and retain the final evaluated configuration. Before accepting the certificate, check its models, regulations, manufacturing sites and supply scope against the original application and business plan.

• Confirm registration and status through the official record.

Apply the EAC mark only when the relevant conformity requirements are fulfilled. Review the applicable rules for location, product information and accompanying documents. Changes to design, manufacturer, applicant or supply arrangements can affect the certificate, so maintain a review process throughout its applicable validity period.
