The Australian Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards framework regulates specified product classes through product-specific determinations. Depending on the determination, obligations can include minimum energy performance, testing, registration and energy labelling. The starting point is the regulated product definition, not simply whether equipment consumes electricity.

GEMS registration is model focused. Brand names, technical characteristics and test information need to describe the product being supplied. Australia and New Zealand share an energy rating program, but the legal requirements and registration treatment should be checked for each destination rather than assumed identical.
