Make efficiency accountable.

Describe the product’s function, rated capacity, intended environment and operating modes. Compare those characteristics with the legal definitions and exclusions in the applicable measure. A commercial category such as smart appliance is too broad to establish the assessment; an integrated function may bring additional requirements.

• Create a model-to-regulation matrix before booking tests.

Measures can address energy use, standby behaviour, resource efficiency and information supplied to users or repairers. Separate measured limits from documentation obligations. A design that meets an efficiency value may still need manuals, spare-part information or published data specified for its product group.

• Distinguish ecodesign duties from energy-labelling requirements.

Agree test methods, software settings, supply conditions and any accessories that influence results. Preserve the configuration used to establish declared performance. If a model family varies by capacity or control settings, document why the selected samples represent the models claimed in the compliance file.

• Record firmware, operating modes and measurement uncertainty.

The manufacturer is responsible for demonstrating conformity and preparing the relevant declaration and technical documentation. Bring together the applicable measure, assessment procedure, results and product information. Imported or privately branded products need an evidence handover that matches the responsibilities of the parties involved.

• Resolve gaps between laboratory model codes and sales names.

Energy labels are required only for product groups covered by the relevant labelling legislation. Where applicable, coordinate the label, product information sheet and EPREL data with the same measured values. Do not transfer an energy class from a similar product or an unrelated market’s calculation.

• Review online product pages as well as printed packaging.

Maintain a record of applicable regulation versions and future requirements already adopted for the product group. Review changes to motors, power electronics or control software before release because they can alter declared consumption. Treat new operating features as potential assessment changes, even when the enclosure remains identical.

• Allocate responsibility for monitoring the product measure.
